Breaking through the “Brick Wall” [Coaching Frustrated Colleagues in Education]

Discover how Anthony Anderson coached his colleague to break through the brick wall, and why she was disappointed that her coaching cycle was ending...

What was the coachee/situation was like BEFORE your coaching?

Feeling frustrated and struggling to take things forward in her area. Nobody seemed to be listening, she didn't know where to start or what to do next and felt like she was coming up against a brick wall. She isn't a teacher, but has responsibility in the college for a well used service and cares deeply about making this as good as it can be for everybody.

What EXACTLY did you do?

Completed a coaching cycle of 6 weeks, meeting on a weekly basis. Sharing and talking about progress in between as initiated by the coachee and lots of e-mails!

What's the coachee/situation like AFTER the coaching?

Amazing progress. Feels confident and in control and able to be more assertive in her working relationships. Feeling that she had moved forward and knowing what she wanted to do next. Disappointed that this coaching cycle was coming to an end! "This is the first time at work that I ever feel anybody has really listened to me," was her evaluation of the time we had spent working together. That was so encouraging to hear and made all the effort of delivering a top quality coaching experience worthwhile!
